Bellows' illustrations for The Wind Bloweth series were so well received that the same year he was commissioned to illustrate the serialized version of H. G. Wells's book Men Like Gods.

This lithograph was based on the almost identical drawing which illustrated the May 1923 installment of Wells's story, which was serialized in Hearst's International Magazine.
