George Bellows and his friend, the sculptor Robert Ingersoll Aitken (1878-1949), followed a long tradition in using one another as models. Here the very manly Aitken is shown wearing a bold necktie and a coat with a rich fur collar. The fur collar serves to emphasize the coarse texture of Aitken's thick hair and heavy eyebrows.
