This second version of Prayer Meeting is more polished than the first and the figures are mirror images. This second version is a stronger composition due to the fact the figures read more dramatically left to right. Bellows has changed the atmospheric quality of the lithograph, giving it an overall smoky tonality. The oil lamps on the walls appear to give off an actual glow, emphasizing the frantic gesticulations of the orator, Deacon Smith.
