Second Annual Distinguished Lecture in Indian Art

"Discovery, Continuity, and Innovation in the History of Indian Painting" presented by Pramod Chandra, Ph.D., George P. Bickford Research Professor of Indian and South Asian Art, Harvard University

October 29, Sunday
3:30 p.m., James S. Copley Auditorium
Free

In this lavishly illustrated lecture, internationally acclaimed Harvard art historian, Professor Pramod Chandra, will discuss how, in spite of apparent diversity, there is an overarching unity of Indian painting throughout the country's history. He will demonstrate how themes and styles set up in classical Indian painting of the 5th century continue to be felt in a direct or transformed manner in various schools—whether Mughal or Rajput—that followed. Dr. Chandra will also be presenting two Indian Art workshops this same weekend.

Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres in the sculpture garden will follow the lecture. To make a reservation, please call (619) 696-1969 or email programs@sdmart.org by October 22.
