Jazz in the Park

Wednesdays, 5:30 p.m.
James S. Copley Auditorium
$18 members/$22 nonmembers/$10 students

Instruments abound this quarter at Jazz in the Park, featuring guitars, basses, pianos, violins, violas, and cellos. Enjoy nationally acclaimed jazz trios complemented with new sounds from traditionally classical instruments.

April 2: Peter Sprague String Consort
Peter Sprague’s seven-piece group, comprised of a classical string quartet and a jazz trio, explores a soundscape riding on the rhythmic pulse of the Brazilian samba and jazz swing. The band plays pieces composed by Sprague, as well as pieces written by Chick Corea and a new arrangement of Bach’s Prelude No. 9 from the Well Tempered Clavier.
May 7: Two Generations of Jazz Guitar
Swinging Bay Area jazz guitarist Mimi Fox makes her San Diego debut this month, sharing the concert with the venerable Mundell Lowe, one of the living legends of jazz guitar. They will each do a set with L.A. bassist Darek Oles and drummer Steve Barnes and end the concert by performing together.
June 4: Geoffrey Keezer Trio
The Geoffrey Keezer Trio, featuring New York bassist Christian McBride and drummer Terreon Gully, returns this year with guest members of the San Diego Symphony to premiere a brand new major work. Keezer’s sold-out concert last year proved he is one of the most dynamic, accomplished pianists in jazz and classical music.
