“Who Was Asher B. Durand?”

How shall we remember Durand? As the foremost engraver of his time? As a founder of the National Academy of Design? As the early champion of plein-air painting and mentor to a generation of landscape artists? Linda S. Ferber, Ph.D., vice president of the New-York Historical Society, will demonstrate that, in fact, we remember this remarkable and still-underappreciated figure for all of these contributions.
“The Supernatural in Italian Renaissance Art”
