The San Diego Museum of Art's Deputy Director for Curatorial Affairs Dr. Julia Marciari-Alexander will give a lecture on women's portraits in the 17th century entitled “Mistress or Madonna?” $12 members/$15 nonmembers/$7 students.

    Sara Cochran, Curator of Contemporary Art at the Phoenix Art Museum, will deliver a lecture entitled “California Dreaming: Dalí and the Golden State.” Generously sponsored by the Museum Docent Council.

    Seldom Seen: Nun's Shield

    From the seventeenth century through the early part of the nineteenth century, nun's shields existed as powerful symbols of identity during the colonial period in Mexico. Join Amy Galpin, Project Curator for American Art, when she takes the nun's shield out of the Museum's vault for one night only. Her lecture will allow for appreciation of this singular object and for a lively discussion of the role of nuns in colonial Mexico and the art they inspired.
