Yoga at the Museum

Hibben Gallery

Experience art in context during Yoga at the Museum. Strengthen your mind and body as you practice yoga in the Museum's Hibben Gallery and meditate on the art around you. Instructor Amy Pachowicz will offer a four-week course focusing on renewal, creation, and lifeforce. The goals are to increase energy through basic pranayama (breath work), supported backbends, beginning inversions and twists, and restorative poses. Hip-opening poses will also be taught as a way to increase creativity.

Yo-Yo Ma investigates the relationship between music and visual art. In this film, the talented cellist plays the music of Bach in a virtual prison based on the Carceri, the imaginary prisons found in the etchings of Giovanni Battista Piranesi. Along the way, audiences hear from architect Moshe Safdie and others while learning of Piranesi's only built church project, the Santa Maria del Priorato.

Second Saturday Workshop: Intaglio-Inspired Printing

Inspired by Piranesi, Rome, and the Arts of Design

Saturday, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
The Studio

Create a series of intaglio-style prints inspired by the printmaker, architect, antiquarian, and designer Giambattista Piranesi. Traditional intaglio printmaking involves etching a design with acid onto a copper plate and applying oil-based ink to the plate to create a series of prints. During this three-hour workshop, participants will incise graphic designs into plastic and use gouache paint as ink to create a series of prints evoking the same sense of delicacy and refinement of detail as those produced by the original process.
