Focusing on youth in both content and context, this concert features String Quartet No.2, a work written by Mendelssohn at 18, and The Juliet Letters, a series of imaginary letters by Elvis Costello to a young Juliet. Revealing the impetuous, dramatic, and highly emotional nature of youth, the first concert of Art of Elan's seventh season offers reflections on youth. Jonathan Swift once wrote, “No wise men ever wished to be younger,” yet the desire for youthfulness remains an eternal obsession.
Over the course of four concerts, Art of Élan's seventh season, REFLECTIONS, uses music to explore what it means to be human; providing reflections on youth, hope, loss and humanity. Providing a "mixtape" of reflections culled from the internet, fellow musicians, former teachers, and colleagues, this series features unique collaborations, sounds from around the world, and newly commissioned works.
Attend concerts on November 26, Feburary 25, or April 29, or purchase season tickets before October 15.*
