Distinguished art historian, and Professor Emeritus of Art History at the Panjab University, Chandigarh, Dr. B. N. Goswamy will discuss depictions of Sufis in Indian paintings during this Annual Distinguished Lecture. Goswamy's wide-ranging work is regarded particularly for his influential research of Indian painting. His research is particularly prevalent in relation to the Museum's Edwin Binney 3rd Collection of South Asian paintings displayed in Temple, Palace, Mosque.
Goswamy has received honors including: the Jawaharlal Nehru Fellowship, the Rietberg Award for Outstanding Research in Art History, the Padma Shri (1998), and the Padma Bhushan (2008) from the President of India. Currently, he holds a Tagore National Fellowship for Cultural Research. Goswamy has taught, as Visiting Professor, at several universities across the world, and is responsible for major exhibitions of Indian art at Paris, San Francisco, Zurich, San Diego, New York, Frankfurt, and New Delhi.
