The 20-voice ensemble SACRA/PROFANA presents Reviving Orpheus, a concert of music from the 16th and 17th centuries. This concert celebrates the mythology of love as expressed in music, exploring the relationship between pain and ecstasy, which lies at the core of the troubadour ideal. The program includes music by Carlo Gesualdo, William Byrd, and John Dowland, as well as shorter works on ancient texts by modern composers.
These unique concerts of vocals and instruments from the Medieval, Baroque, and Renaissance periods are perfomed among the European paintings in the Hibben Gallery.
