Identity and History

In response to this year's Summer Salon Series theme–What does a city need?– the evening of June 23, 2011 will consider the idea of Identity and History.    

The following is a detailed list of the evening's events and participants:

5:00 – 8:00 pm: Susy Bielak will present The Park, at Sea. This multi-faceted work includes military personnel standing watch over the Museum's nautical painting in Gallery 18 for a three hour period. Additionally, as part of this piece,  performances by the veteran's group the Thursday Songsters will take place two different times during the evening.

This performance will take place in various galleries.

5:00 – 8:30 pm: Giuseppe No-Host Bar Giuseppe's Restaurant will offer beer, wine and snacks.

The bar is located in the Museum's lower rotunda.

6:00 - 6:30 pm: Ash Smith presents the Prologue and Part 1 of Shooting People

Prologue begins in front of the Museum and Part 1 takes place in both the lower and upper rotundas.

This performance moves throughout the Museum.  You are encouraged to follow the performance.

6:00 – 7:00 pm: Art Making Activity Join Amy Briere anytime during the six o' clock hour for an activity that explores the medium of dioramas.  This project is fun and engaging for all ages and skill levels.

This activity will take place in the Museum's IMAGE Gallery.

6:30-6:50 pm: Performance by the Thursday Songsters as part of The Park, At Sea.

This performance will take place in Gallery 18.

7:00 -7:30 pm: Ash Smith will present Part 2 and Part 3 of Shooting People.

This performance will take place in the lower rotunda and first floor galleries.

This performance moves throughout the Museum.  You are encouraged to follow the performance.

7:30-7:50 pm: The Thursday Songsters perform as part of The Park, at Sea.

This performance will take place in Gallery 18.

8:00 pm: Panel Discussion on Issues Surrounding Preservation and Restoration of Historic Structures

Join for a conversation on this topic with Constance Ramos, Bill Lawrence, Jaye MacCaskill and David Swarens.  Constance Ramos is the star and designer of HGTV's Color Correction and was an original castmember of ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.  Through her company, Constance Caroll Design, she has worked with such corporations as I.M. Pei & Partners.  Bill Lawrence is an award winning broadcast news writer and producer and the researcher, writer and publisher of BorregoModern.com, advocating the appreciation and preservation of the Mid-Century modern architecture and history of the San Diego desert resort community of Borrego Springs.  Jaye MacAskill is President of SOHO and a real estate professional. David Swarens is a community activist, a member of the Golden Hill Planning group and the Old Town Planning group and a past president of SOHO.

This conversation will take place in Gallery 16 and is co-presented by SOHO, the Save Our Heritage Organisation.
