Interpreting poetry through musical improvisation, The Word Rhythm Ensemble is led by local pianist and composer, Joshua White. White received training in classical and gospel music from UC San Diego, and placed second in the prestigious Thelonius Monk International Piano Competition in 2011. Starting at 7:00 p.m., the ensemble will perform two sets, taking inspiration from Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Henry Purcell, and others- think jazz meets beat poetry.
The Museum has selected three nationally recognized musicians: Danny Green, Joshua White, and Mark Dresser for the Jazz Residency Project. During their residencies, each musician will explore a single topic or theme critical to their work over the course of three concerts. Each concert includes a unique repertoire and ensemble. Joshua will perform three concerts on June 27, July 18, and July 25.
