Colors and Shapes Try-It
Colors and shapes are waiting to be discovered in a gallery tour. Girls will spot red triangles and yellow circles, mix up colors and
stir up fun in this action packed workshop. Two paintings and a colorful mobile are the hands on projects for this workshop.
Junior Girl Scout Program (3 hours)
The Museum offers five different Badge workshops for Junior Girl Scouts.
- Art in the Round
This workshop focuses on the works of three women sculptors. Girls will explore two different mediums used by sculptors as they create two small sculptures.
- Visual Arts
Girls will learn that seeing is different from looking. Artists can use color to create mood. Color mixing is explored and mood paintings are created.
Optical illusion art is studied and a black and white collage is constructed.
- Drawing and Painting
Line, shape, color and texture are the elements of any drawing or painting. Girls will have fun experimenting with these techniques as they create
several drawings and paintings.
- Folk Art
Girls will find inspiration from their own experiences to create artworks in the folk-art style. A portrait, a story illustration, and a
folk-art toy will be created.
- Prints and Graphics
The Museum's collection of prints will serve as inspiration as the girls experiment with various printmaking methods. Vegetable, relief,
transfer, and mono-printing will be explored.
Cadette and Senior Girl Scout Interest Project(supplement) (3 hours)
- Museum Discovery
Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts will go behind the scenes to find out who works in a museum, how the collection is cared for, how
programs are planned, and what technologies are used. Each girl will construct a model museum. The Museum Discovery
workshop is a supplement to the Museum Discovery Interest Project.
Each workshop is scheduled independently. Please contact Karin Baker by telephone (619) 595-0360
