Docent Council Mission Statement

Museum Tours

As of April 1, 2008, SDMA will no longer be offering self-guided tours free of charge. School groups and organizations now need to be accompanied by an SDMA docent. Museum Docents (teacher-guides) are available to present tours of the permanent collection and special exhibitions to groups, providing personal contact with original works of art and enhancing any school curriculum. Teachers may request a special emphasis for the tour.

One-hour tours are scheduled Tuesday through Thursday at 10:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 2:00 p.m. and Fridays at 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.. Please do not request tours on the third Tuesday of the month, as this is "Free Tuesday" for the general public. Tours are available for students in grades 3 through 12. One adult chaperone is required for every 10 students. Tours are free for students up to age 18. Tours fill up rapidly, so please make requests at least four weeks in advance.
