Young Art is SDMA’s biennial exhibition of K–12 student artwork from San Diego city and county schools. Young Art 2009: Expressing Literature marks the 40th exhibition of this San Diego tradition and will focus on artwork in a variety of media inspired by all forms of literature.

Teen Art Café at SDMA: Expressing Literature

Teen artists are invited to the Museum to celebrate the opening of the SDMA generated biennial exhibition of K-12th grade student artwork, Young Art 2009: Expressing Literature. Meet other teen artists while having the chance to learn about the ideas behind this unique exhibition. Café activities will include making literature-inspired artwork, light refreshments, as well as presentations by a practicing professional illustrator and/or an SDMA staff member involved in the development of the exhibition.

Join us in the Young Art 2009: Expressing Literature galleries for two literature-based theater art presentations led by Literature Comes to Life creator and director, Stacey Wein. Award-winning stories and fairy tales will come to life through audience participation as young visitors and their families wear exquisite costumes, portraying different storybook characters, and are guided through their roles to tell the tale.

Led by K-12th grade students whose artwork is featured in Young Art 2009: Expressing Literature exhibition, these tours will give visitors the opportunity to meet young artists and learn what it is like to participate in this unique exhibition. Geared for the entire family, the tours will provide new perspectives on creating art.
