Summer Camp 2013

REGISTRATION

Half-Day: $150 Members | $200 Nonmembers
Full-Day: $275 Members | $350 Nonmembers*
Full or partial
Summer Program Scholarships available

TO REGISTER:

  • Register online for the Teen Summer Studios or Summer Camps listed below.
  • Mail a completed Registration Form to: The San Diego Museum of Art, Summer Programs 2013, P.O. Box 122107, San Diego, CA 92112-2107
  • Fax completed form to 619.232.9367.
  • Register at the Admissions Desk at the Museum during open hours.
  • Please Note: Students will NOT be registered until payment is received in full. When registering, please fill out all information completely. A current email or mailing address is required to receive registration confirmation. Payment must be made in the form of credit or check payable to The San Diego Museum of Art.

SUMMER CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS:

  • Complete and mail in this form along with a completed Registration Form to apply for a full or partial scholarship.
*Staff will oversee lunch period and activity time between camp or studio sessions for campers and teens enrolled in the Full-Day. To receive the discount for the Full-Day option, orders must be processed through the mail or over the phone. Please mail in the Summer Programs 2013 Registration Form or call 619.696.1935 to make this selection.

 

PROGRAM INFORMATION:

Please read all of the enclosed Summer Programs 2013 Information Packet regarding Teen Summer Studio and Summer Camp policies and procedures, and return completed forms to the Museum prior to the first day of the program. 

Combine a half-day program at The San Diego Museum of Art with a half-day program at another institution to create a full-day of summer fun in Balboa Park! Information on half-day offerings can be found in the Park-Wide Camp Schedule.

CANCELLATION/SICK POLICY:

  • Cancellations must be made at least two weeks prior to the first day of a camp/studio to receive a 100% refund.
  • Cancellations made less than two weeks prior to the first day of a camp/studio will be refunded at 50% of the fee paid.
  • After the first day of a camp/studio, no refunds will be issued for any reason.

TEEN SUMMER STUDIOS
JULY 29 – AUGUST 2 | Grades 6 – 8 & 9 – 12
9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon | 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Week-long, half-day classes are taught by visiting artists, art educators, and community members.

Studio A | Primary Palette: Exploring Painting (Grades 6–8) | Register
Indoor and outdoor painting will be explored using acrylic, watercolor, and more to create masterpieces inspired by paintings in the Museum.

Studio B | Teen Portfolio Development 1 (Grades 9–12) | Register
Teens will develop a portfolio for submission to fine arts colleges while expanding foundational art-making experience.

1:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m.

Studio C | From Press to Print: Exploring Printmaking (Grades 6–8) | Register
Exciting ways to produce original art in multiples will be discovered by exploring a variety of printmaking techniques.

Studio D | Teen Portfolio Development II (Grades 9–12) | Register
Teens develop an entrance portfolio for submission to fine arts colleges while expanding foundational art-making experience.*

*Recommended for students currently or previously enrolled in Teen Portfolio Development I.

 
 
SUMMER CAMPS
AUGUST 5–30 | Grades K–2 & 3–5

Week-long, half-day camps are led by artist instructors and will include art activities that explore a variety of media and trips to the Museum to view summer exhibitions.

Camp 1 & 2 | Ready, Set, Art!: Art Exploration Lab | Register
Museum galleries provide inspiration for exploring and experimenting with painting, printmaking, and other media while learning about art. Camp 1 (K - 2) | Camp 2 (3 - 5)

August 5-9 | 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Camp 3 & 4 |
Off the Wall: Exploring 3-D Art |  Register
Visits to the Museum galleries and Sculpture Garden will provide inspiration for sculpltural works made from clay, cardboard, and other materials. Camp 3 (K - 2) | Camp 4 (3 - 5)

August 12–16 | 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon
Camp 5 & 6 | Capturing our World: Observation |

Young artists will discover new ways of looking at objects throughout the Museum galleries and Balboa Park and by capturing them using a variety of art materials. Camp 5 (K - 2) | Camp 6 (3 - 5)

August 12-16 | 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Camp 7 & 8 | Dragons, Monsters, and Myths: Asian Art
| Register
Art and mythology of various Asian cultures on view at the Museum will inspire a variety of mixed media art projects. Camp 7 (K - 2) | Camp 8 (3 - 5)

August 19–23 | 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon
Camp 9 & 10 |
Strike a Pose!: Exploring Gesture | Register
Gesture, form, and movement in art will be explored during visits to the Museum and will inspire dynamic paintings, drawings, and more. Camp 9 (K - 2) | Camp 10 (3 - 5)

August 19-23 | 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Camp 11 & 12 | Dress to Express: Exploring Wearable Art
| Register
Wearable works of art will be created inspired by unique costumes, jewelry, masks, and more on view in the Museum. Camp 11 (K - 2) | Camp 12 (3 - 5)

August 26–30 | 9:00 a.m.  – 4:00 p.m. (FULL-DAY ONLY)*
Camp 13 | Puppets and Props: Exploring Puppetry ( Grades K–5)
| Register
This combined K--5, full-day camp will allow young artists of all ages to explore puppetry from various cultures inspired by objects in the Museum. Campers will make a variety of puppets to be used in a final play for friends and family. 

*To receive all discounts for Camp 13, Member orders must be processed by mail or over the phone. Please mail in the Summer Programs Registration Form or call 619.696.1935 to make this selection.
