Camp 1: Creative Creatures (ages 5-7)
Tour the Museum’s special exhibition Heroes: Mortals and Myths in Ancient Greece and become inspired to create a creature through painting, drawing, and collage.
Camp 2: Mixed Media Explorations (ages 8-10)
Explore painting, printmaking, sculpture, and drawing and tour the Museum’s galleries to learn about some of the remarkable artists and artworks on view.
August 9-13
Camp 3: The Map as Art (ages 7-9)
Explore the possibilities of mapping the unknown, imaginary, and intangible by experimenting with scale, line, shape, and space.
Camp 4: What’s Outside?: Plein Air Painting (ages 10-12)
Experiment with techniques such as one-point perspective and color saturation while documenting places and scenery in Balboa Park.
August 16-20
Camp 5: Colorful Shapes (ages 5-7)
Create art, play art inspired games, listen to stories, and tour the galleries as you learn about color, shape, and pattern.
Camp 6: From Press to Print: Printmaking (ages 8-10)
Discover one of the most exciting ways to reproduce original art by exploring a variety of printmaking techniques.
August 23-27
Camp 7: All About Paint (ages 7-9)
Experiment with techniques used to apply paint and color by artists of the 15th century Renaissance through abstract expressionists of the 20th century.
Camp 8: Art is Play: John Baldessari and the Art of Looking (ages 10-12)
Learn different visual strategies of looking at the world and discover some the things that make everyday objects and actions art.

Single-Day Camps

Camp 9: Art Around the World (ages 5-7)
Participate in art making activities inspired by art on view in the Museum galleries from Asia, Africa, and Oceania.
Camp 10: Heroic Vessels: Exploring Clay (ages 8-10)
Tour the special exhibition Heroes: Mortals & Myths in Ancient Greece and create a hand-built clay vessel decorated with mythological motifs.
August 31
Camp 11: Colorful Characters: The Prints of Toulouse-Lautrec
(ages 7-9)
Learn about different methods of portraiture and create a screen print in the style of the graphic posters of Henri Toulouse-Lautrec.
Camp 12: Scrolls and Calligraphy (ages 10-12)
Use materials such as bamboo and horse hair brushes, grinding stones, and rare paper to create a piece of hanging wall art.
