The Curatorial department of the San Diego Museum of Art accepts interns, as needed, to work
on specific exhibitions and projects in all four curatorial areas: American Art, Asian Art,
Contemporary Art, and European Art. These unpaid internships provide research, writing, and
administrative support to curatorial staff, while giving interns the opportunity to gain
knowledge and experience working in a museum environment.
Qualifications:
Most curatorial internships are open to M.A. or Ph.D. students of art history or
museum studies, or college graduates with related experience. Some general administrative
internships are available for undergraduates.
Other qualifications include:
- Excellent research and writing skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word
- Excellent organizational skills
- Flexibility and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Writing and translation skills in a second language desirable (Spanish, Japanese,
Chinese-Mandarin, Hindi)
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Must be self-motivated
Hours:
10-20 hours per week. Length of internship dictated by project. Hours are flexible, possible
at-home or off-site work.
