Exhibition Graphic Artist
Classification: Non-Exempt
Reports: Exhibition Designer
Job Summary:
The Exhibition Graphic Artist will work under the direction of the Exhibition Designer in designing, producing and installing high quality exhibition graphics for temporary and permanent installations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Design, produce and install exhibition graphics including, but not limited to labels, text panels, directional signs, photo panels and title walls.
- Work with curators, registrars and translator to obtain accurate signage information.
- Work with construction supervisor to produce and install exhibition signage
- Operate and maintain Roland CAMM-1 vinyl cutter
- Produce and install vinyl signage
- Schedule and supervise projects produced by vendors outside the museum
- Purchase, maintain and organize graphics supplies, tools and materials
- Supervise temporary employees assigned to graphics projects
- Maintain up to date files
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelors or equivalent with an emphasis in the arts, design or related field. Two to four years experience in a museum environment, gallery or cultural institution.
Knowledge: Strong production background is a big plus.
Abilities: Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment. Takes initiative managing multiple tasks with the ability to prioritize and shift priorities as needed. Ability to work as a motivated team member under the pressure of meeting strict deadlines. Detail oriented, patient and flexible. Ability to work with creative artists and vendors in a professional manner.
Skills: Effective communication skills, both verbal and in writing. Strong organizational and administrative skills. Computer literate with proficiency using Adobe Creative Suite and In-Design-CS2. Experience using small tools and Roland CAMM-1vinyl cutter. Supervision experience preferred. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Other Requirements: A valid California DriverÕs license, insurance and be willing to use it on the job preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Some traveling to other sites by car.
- 70% time spent on the computer
- Some climbing on a ladder
- Ability to use small tools
Work Environment:
- Office space may be shared.
- Noise level ranges from quiet to moderately noisy
