Graphic Design Intern

Job Scope:
Collaborative Arts Resources for Education (CARE) is seeking a graphic design intern to assist in designing original graphics and layout for Family Activity Pages for our art education Website. Projects will be completed under the supervision of the CARE Program Manager and the Graphic Designer at the San Diego Museum of Art. Collaborative Arts Resources for Education is a unique art education initiative offered by the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Museum of Photographic Arts, and the San Diego Museum of Art. The internship will take place from October 2, 2006 through December 8, 2006.

Qualifications::
The internship is open to undergraduate or graduate college students. Qualified applicants should have completed coursework in graphic design.

Requirements:

  • Proficiency/expertise in Adobe InDesign CS2, Illustrator CS2, Photoshop CS2, and Acrobat Professional
  • Experience in creating layouts and templates, and has experience working with PDFs
  • Own or have regular access to Apple Macintosh G4 or G5 with Adobe InDesign CS2 Photoshop CS2, Illustrator CS2, and Acrobat Professional
  • Own or have access to a color printer
  • Have ability to create designs appropriate for and appealing to children ages 8-12
  • Pays attention to detail and accuracy
  • Has excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Must be prompt in responding to emails and project deadlines.
  • Must be available for meetings Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. from 10/2/06-12/8/06

Responsibilities:

  • Design graphics and layout for 10-15 Family Activity Pages for the CARE Website. Computer equipment and software will not be provided to the intern.
  • Work collaboratively with representatives from the CARE Program.
  • Work collaboratively with the graphic designer from the San Diego Museum of Art.
  • Attend 1-2 meetings a week with representatives from the CARE Program and the San Diego Museum of Art.

Hours:
10 hours per week for 10 weeks. Hours are flexible, depending on class schedule; however, the intern must be available to meet at least 2 times a week at the San Diego Museum of Art.

Closing date:
September 8, 2006

Stipend:
A $500 stipend will be paid at the midpoint of the internship and an additional $500 stipend at the completion. The stipend will be paid based on achievement of objectives.
