The Marketing/PR department of the San Diego Museum of Art seeks one or two
part-time interns each quarter or semester (including summer) to assist in all areas of the department's functions.
This unpaid internship provides administrative support to the Marketing/PR department, while
exposing students to a wide variety of specific marketing and communications skills.
Qualifications:
The internship is open to currently enrolled college students (or students on summer break), who
can earn college credit for a marketing/communications internship. Qualified applicants should have
coursework and/or demonstrated interest in one or more of the following fields: public relations,
communications, marketing, art history, and art administration.
Other qualifications include:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Internet research skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- A positive, outgoing attitude
- Flexibility and an ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Fluency in Spanish desirable
Hours:
10-20 hours per week for a time period of 8-12 weeks (school quarter or semester). Hours are
flexible, depending on class schedules; however, interns preferably will be able to work in four to
five hour blocks of time on the days they are scheduled at the Museum.
Duties:
Maintain exhibition project binders, update media lists, write and distribute press releases and
events for coverage, assemble press kits, maintain slide collection, order supplies for department,
organize ad insertion and purchase order binders, assist in coordinating visitor surveys and various
promotions and mailings.
