THIS poster advertised for the illustrated art review L'Aube ("The Dawn"), which was launched in the spring of 1896.

L'Aube

It is early dawn and two dramatic rays of light from the street lamp reveal a driver muffled against the morning's damp chill, as a beleaguered peasant woman pushes a dustcart along a steep street.

Lautrec conveys a wonderful light and atmosphere through the same spattered turquoise ink as he employed in Le Tocsin.
