Published on the occasion of the exhibition Visual Encounters: Africa, Oceania and Modern Art from the Fondation Beyeler in Basel, Switzerland, the catalogue contains a superb selection of extra-European art. In the exhibition, these works encounter masterpieces of classical modernism, paintings and sculptures by Monet, van Gogh, Picasso, Mondrian, Matisse, and others. The presentation emphasizes the visual power of the works on display and the crucial contribution made by Africa and Oceania to the history of world art.
This is the first time that a special exhibition is devoted to the significant collection of extra-European art amassed by collector, Ernst Beyeler. It is supplemented by over 180 loans from major public and private collections.

The brochure contains a series of essays by distinguished experts and provides insights into this complex thematic field.
Book box, supplementary brochure in English, 15 fold-out sheets, and a total of approx. 300 full-color illustrations.
The publication was designed and printed in collaboration with Christoph Merian Verlag.
