Open Spaces: Logan Heights
KRPB our community powered airwaves! The transmitter has been raised for Radio Pulso del Barrio, the community project for Open Spaces: Logan Heights. Led by Artist-In-Residence, Roberto Salas, Lead Artist, Misael Diaz, and local community members, Radio Pulso del Barrio is a bilingual art, culture, and education-centric radio station designed, built, and maintained by the communities of the greater Logan Heights area to connect and empower its neighborhoods by giving residents a voice.
Launching spring 2014, the radio station will have a home base location at the Open Spaces Bread & Salt studio, and a mobile radio unit. Project organizers have divided into committees to plan and implement a sustainable structure to keep the station up and running. Contact us, visit the Radio Pulso del Barrio Logan website or blog, or call 619.696.1977 for more information, or to find out how to become involved.
Over the course of several meetings, Salas, Diaz, and Museum representatives have met with community members to brainstorm ideas, discuss and evaluate project content, timelines, and implementation strategies—moving the project from concept to actuality. Community members and anyone interested in becoming involved in the project are invited to attend.
Radio Pulso Del Barrio, the new project for Open Spaces: Logan Heights, will be participating in the Chicano Park Day Celebration on Saturday, April 19. Tune into 1600 am, or visit their Facebook page for more info.
