The San Diego Museum of Art Celebrates Art Alive 2013
Floral interpretations of famous works of art on view April 26 – 28
San Diego –Nearly 120 floral designers will transform famous works of art from The San Diego Museum of Art’s permanent collection into exquisite floral displays for the Museum’s 32nd annual Art Alive exhibition. The Museum’s signature fundraiser and a San Diego tradition, Art Alive 2013 brings the permanent collection to life in a unique and beautiful way, including vibrant displays of color, texture and shape from April 26-28, 2013. In addition to three full days of activities and celebrations, Bella Meyer, granddaughter of artist Marc Chagall and founder and creative director for FleursBella Beautifiers in New York City, will transform the Rotunda into a breathtaking floral experience for visitors as they enter the building.
This year’s exhibition will be open to the public Friday, April 26 through Sunday, April 28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and with extended hours from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. In addition to viewing the exhibition during Museum hours, visitors can take part by attending other events, including:

The Art Alive Opening Celebration Patrons and guests, Honorary and Steering Committee members, and participating designers will enjoy the creations of top restaurants and chefs, music, and one-of-a-kind floral interpretations of famous works of art. Tickets to the Celebration are $200 for members and $250 for nonmembers and covers admission to Flowers After Hours as well.
Flowers After Hours- Opening Celebration After Party
Friday, April 26 from 9:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.
This year, Flowers After Hours becomes the swanky after-bash of the Art Alive Opening Celebration for San Diego’s late-night bloomers. This posh party includes hosted bites and cocktails, live entertainment, hands-on activities, and other floral fun. Tickets are $50 for members and $75 for nonmembers.
Floral Workshop with Carlos Franco
Saturday, April 27 at 10:30 a.m.
On Saturday morning guests can participate in a floral class with San Diego florist Carlos Franco from Green Flesh Florals. All levels of floral skill are welcome and space is limited. Tickets are $100 for Members and $125 for nonmembers.
Art Alive Film
Saturday, April 26 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m.
Catch a floral-themed film at the Museum starting at 6:00 p.m. The film will be announced at a later date. Tickets are $20 for members and $35 nonmembers.
Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28 from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Free after event admission.
Experience a variety of hands-on projects for children and families to enjoy together. Activities include creating floral arrangements using art materials, participating in a Museum-wide flower hunt and listening to nature-inspired stories in the children’s reading area.
