Art Alive 2012

Thank you to everyone who made this year's Art Alive such a huge success!

Thank you so much for joining the more than 10,000 donors, members, and guests who (despite the blustery weather) joined us for Art Alive 2012. We are so pleased to report that this year’s Art Alive was the Museum's most successful in 31 years.

Thanks to the generosity of our Honorary Committee, sponsors, and volunteers we were able to raise more money this year than ever before! As you know, the money raised during Art Alive supports critical curatorial initiatives and unparalleled education programs that help make San Diego a more vibrant and enriching city.

From our wonderful Opening Celebration to our Garden of Activities family area, we hope you enjoyed Art Alive 2012, and we hope you will join us again next year, April 25-28, 2013. Save the dates!!

Experience it for the first time or all over again by visiting our Art Alive photo galleries.

Opening Celebration April 12, 2012 | Exhibition April 13-15, 2012

Springtime in San Diego can only mean one thing — Art Alive at The San Diego Museum of Art. Each year floral designers are invited into the galleries to interpret some of the greatest art in San Diego’s collection. Masterpieces from world-renowned artists such as El Greco, Degas, Monet, and Renior can be seen side by side their floral doubles.

The Museum celebrates these four floral-filled days with a host of special events. Art Alive kicks off on Thursday evening with an Opening Celebration featuring a sneak peek at the flowers and tastes from several of San Diego’s top restaurants. Friday night, the Museum and guests radiate at Flowers After Hours, an enhanced evening experience. As the DJ spins, guests will dance the night away, sip on captivating cocktails, taste tantalizing treats and participate in art-making activities. Saturday and Sunday, experience a garden of projects for children and families to enjoy together at the Garden of Activities. Activities will include creating flower arrangements from art materials, reading nature-inspired stories in the children’s reading area, building a paper garden on the walls, and participating in a Museum-wide, flower-related search and find activity.

Art Alive has been a San Diego tradition for the past 30 years; bringing more than 12,000 visitors through the galleries each spring. It is the Museum’s signature fundraiser, providing critical support for the permanent collection.
