Directions to the Museum
From the North
- Interstate 5 South
- Exit on Sassafras Street, which is the airport exit
- Continue to Laurel Street, which has a stoplight, and turn left
- Follow Laurel Street into Balboa Park. You will cross Cabrillo Bridge into the center of Balboa Park
- Laurel Street ends at the Plaza de Panama, adjacent to the Museum.
From the South
- Interstate 5 North
- Exit on Sixth Avenue
- Turn right onto Sixth Avenue
- Continue to Laurel Street, which has a stoplight, and turn right
- Follow Laurel Street into Balboa Park. You will cross Cabrillo Bridge into the center of Balboa Park
- Laurel Street ends at the Plaza de Panama, adjacent to the Museum.
From the East
- Interstate 8 West
- Exit onto State Highway 163 South
- Exit onto University Avenue. Make no turns and you will be on Sixth Avenue.
- Continue to Laurel Street, which has a stoplight, and turn left
- Follow Laurel Street into Balboa Park. You will cross Cabrillo Bridge into the center of Balboa Park
- Laurel Street ends at the Plaza de Panama, adjacent to the Museum.
From the West
- Follow North Harbor Drive until it becomes Laurel Street as you cross I-5
- Follow Laurel Street across Cabrillo Bridge into the center of Balboa Park
- Laurel Street ends at the Plaza de Panama, adjacent to the Museum.
Public Transportation
Visit The San Diego Museum of Art using the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS), with easy access from downtown and Mission Valley. Review the times for the two main bus routes through Balboa Park:
- Route 120 Downtown – Kearny Mesa Transit Center via Hillcrest, Fashion Valley & Linda Vista
- Route 7 Downtown – La Mesa
Visiting on Bicycle
Ride up on your two-wheeler for an eco-friendly visit to The San Diego Museum of Art. Bike racks are located in front of the Botanical Building, just east of the Museum.
