Bloom Bash Featured Artists

Nisha K. Sethi

Mural and sign by Nisha K Sethi and artist at work

Nisha Kaur Sethi is an artist and activist currently working as a professional sign painter. Early on, Nisha developed a passion for typography and was deeply influenced by childhood trips to India, where she was exposed to the fascinating world of hand-painted film posters. Back home in the Bay Area, Nisha was brought up in the graffiti scene, gravitating towards street art with powerful messages. She continues to create work that speaks to her hybrid identity and is currently creating alongside her Oakland-based artist crew Trust Your Struggle Collective. She is also a printmaker and clothing designer, which allows her work to be manifested as wearable art. Nisha’s bold, neon beveled letters pay homage to Indian sign painters while spelling out messages for a better, brighter future.

DOTURMINDS

DOTURMINDS (Dot Your Minds) is a local art and mindfulness group that aims to help people gain clarity, confidence, and purpose by tapping into their core strength to gain balance and contentment in their daily lives through Indian dot art called rangoli. Rangoli is an ancient Indian art form of multi-colored sand used to create floor decorations symbolizing wealth, joy, and prosperity, as well as thanksgiving to deities. A rangoli pattern is made of unbroken lines to prevent evil spirits from penetrating through gaps. Popular designs include geometric shapes, peacock motifs, floral designs, and faces of Hindu gods. The patterns are passed down from one generation to the next with families placing these hand-created designs at the threshold of the home or near the altar area. DOTURMINDS will be onsite at Bloom Bash performing live rangoli art for attendees to experience and discuss this traditional South Asian art form.
