SUMMARY:Irshad Khan Sitar Concert
DESCRIPTION:Join the Committee for the Arts of the Indian Subcontinent for an extraordinary sitar concert by Ustad Irshad Khan. Internationally recognized as one of the leading sitar players\, Khan is is a prominent surbahar (bass sitar) exponent of his generation. \nHailing from a lineage of Maestros\, Irshad is the son and pupil of Ustad Imrat Khan and the nephew of Ustad Vilayat Khan – both world renowned sitar players. A child prodigy\, Khan gave his first public performance at the age of seven. His national debut was at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London\, England when he was only 13. At 18\, he made history as the youngest soloist to perform at one of the most prestigious international music festivals in London\, known as the Indian All Night Concert at the Proms. Since then he was played in over 40 nations spanning the globe. \nIrshad Khan is the founder/president of the Universal Academy for Musicians\, based in Mississauga and Mumbai. An avid scholar\, he also conducts workshops\, lectures\, and classes in various educational institutions. \nIrshad plays with a superb mastery and powerful dexterity. His phenomenal control of the intricate “gayaki-ang” (vocal) and “trantra-ang” (instrumental) styles makes Irshad Khan one of the worlds most dynamic musicians. He is the torchbearer of the younger generation of the leading school of sitar\, known as the Imdadkhani Etawa Gharana. \nWhether performing familiar works from the traditional ragas\, or exploring cultures and musical forms outside of the Indian classical tradition\, Irshad strives to play music that stimulates the imagination. This remarkable versatility allows Irshad to transcend cultural barriers\, and turn each performance into an energetic and unforgettable experience for audiences everywhere. \n \n\nTickets \n$40 Museum members / $30 CAIS members\, students with ID / $45 nonmembers \nReserved seating in the first five rows are available for $60. VIP tickets with reserved front row seating and dinner with Irshad Khan are available for $100. Contact Jas Grewal at jas@dutia.net or 858.353.0302 for reserved seating.
