SUMMARY:How to Present Your Artwork and Get Connected!
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, April 14\n10:00 a.m.–noon\nArts District/Liberty Station\nDick Laub NTC Command Center \n  \nThe Artists’ Guild cordially invite you to join us for our FREE Artists Discussions Series. \nArtists Guild and Liberty Station artists are encouraged to bring artwork to present to the audience during the first hour. This is an excellent opportunity to network with other artists and view each other’s works. \nSpeaker: Alessandra Moctezuma\, Gallery Director and Museum Studies Professor \nSan Diego Mesa College offers the only hands on program in Museum Studies and Gallery Exhibition Skills. In the courses students learn from arts professionals and discover what goes on behind-the-scenes in local museums and arts organizations. Artists can learn to present and promote their work and get connected with the San Diego art scene. \nProfessor Alessandra Moctezuma has an extensive background working as an artist\, as a founder of arts collectives\, as a public arts manager\, and as a curator. Working in arts organizations\, Professor Moctezuma learned many skills that were not taught in art school or studio art classes. She designed courses that offer an overview of the art world and allow students and interested artists to develop skills to succeed as professionals. Making art is essential but getting the work out into the world is crucial! \nThis event is a part of the Artist Discussion Series presented by the Artists’ Guild. \n  \nThere is no charge\, however\, reservations are required. \nPlease register here or RSVP to Angelika Villagrana\, (619) 222-1034 or gelikavillagrana@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Exploring Sikh Legacy and the Impact of the India-Pakistan Partition
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, April 14\n2:00–5:00 p.m.\nMuseum Boardroom \nDuring the 15th century\, Sikh philosophy emerged as a reformist movement in India\, predominantly in the lands that became Pakistan in the partition of 1947. By the 19th century\, the Sikh kingdom established a strong secular formidable rule that the expanding British East India Company\, was stalled from further westward advances. In 1947\, with Indian independence…the British divided the country between India and Pakistan on religious demographics. \nAmardeep Singh is a child of the partition – his parents were uprooted from their homes that became Pakistan. Amardeep’s pioneering research serves as a link for posterity to an almost forgotten yet rich cultural legacy. \nAmardeep Singh\, author & photographer\, lives in Singapore. With an undergraduate degree in Engineering\, he pursued a Masters in Business Administration at the University of Chicago and was the Asia Pacific Regional Head for Revenue Management at American Express. He has passionately maintained pursuits in literary and creative arts as another facet of his personality. During his extensive travels through Pakistan\, Amardeep started documenting his explorations in a book\, Lost Heritage: The Sikh Legacy in Pakistan followed by a sequel in 2017 titled The Quest Continues: Lost Heritage: The Sikh Legacy in Pakistan. His two books are rich in photographs and story line. Autographed books will be available for purchase at $100/book. \n\nFree for CAIS members | $8 for SDMA members | $5 for Students | $10 for all others \nCAIS Members: for your complimentary ticket\, please contact 619-232-7931 by 2 p.m. on 4/13\, otherwise you will need to register at the door pending availability \nFor more information contact caissdma@gmail.com or call (619) 788-8577 or (858) 336-0404\nThis event is limited to 60 people\, so please register online ASAP to reserve your place \nThe presentation will be in two parts with a Q&A and discussion. \nSponsored by CAIS (Committee for the Arts of the Indian Subcontinent) \nFeatured: Image of Amardeep Singh from sangrurheritagelit.com/book-release-function/
