The discussion will focus on the Museum’s partnership with the San Diego African American Museum of Fine Arts and California State University\, Northridge\, and the process of bringing this exhibition to the public. \nParticipants include Gaidi Finnie\, exhibition co-curator and Board Chair of the San Diego African American Museum of Fine Arts\, Denise Rogers\, Ph.D.\, consulting scholar and Professor of Art History at San Diego Mesa College\, and Johanna Benson\, Education Manager at The San Diego Museum of Art. From his early beginnings in working-class West Yorkshire to the glitz and glamour of Hollywood in the 1960s and 70s\, Hockney has consistently defied the labels—“pop art\,” “queer art\,” “figurative art\,”—imposed upon him and has created a remarkable body of work spanning painting\, photographic collage\, and even theater and set design. Hockney utilizes interviews\, personal photographs\, and home movies to offer a deeply personal look at the artist’s remarkable life. 2014\, Not Rated\, 112 min.
