SUMMARY:Teen Art Café: 3D Art
DESCRIPTION:James S. Copley Auditorium\n \nFree for middle school and high school students\nRSVP requested to teenartcafe@sdmart.org.\nPlease include your full name and school.\n \nMeet and mingle with fellow teen artists as you learn about works on view by master artists and participate in art projects led by Museum educators and artists. Students will have the opportunity to go on an exclusive after hours tour of the May S. Marcy Sculpture Garden. Enjoy refreshments\, live music and have the chance to win prizes! \nArt projects will include: Kinetic Sculpture and Drawing in the Garden \nProject Details: Sculpture Activity: Art in Motion \nTaking inspiration from George Rickey’s sculpture: Two Lines Oblique\, students will create their own miniature wind-driven kinetic sculptures. Using soft wire and stacked wooden beads\, teens will design a rotary hub with decorative spinning blades! \nDrawing Activity: Drawing Sculpture with the Reductive Process \nThis Teen Art Cafe’s gallery experience is going to be outside in the sculpture garden\, giving students the opportunity to see the work in a different light. Using a reductive process as opposed to the more often additive process of drawing\, teens will be working with scratch board to reveal their drawings on a dark surface by removing material from the boards. In this process students will discover different techniques to create highlights and shadow. \n
