DESCRIPTION:Friday\, September 18 \n10:00 a.m. \nSpeaker: Roxana Velásquez\, Maruja Baldwin Executive Director of The San Diego Museum of Art \nIn her decade-long tenure as the Maruja Baldwin Executive Director of The San Diego Museum of Art\, Roxana Velásquez has overseen the acquisition of more than 1\,100 works of art including important works by world-renowned artists including Francisco de Zurbarán’s Saint Francis in Prayer in a Grotto (1655)\, Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida’s On the Seashore\, Valencia (1908)\, Jusepe de Ribera’s Saint Bartholomew (ca. 1632)\, Lucas Cranach the Younger’s Nymph of the Spring (ca. 1540)\, and John Singer Sargent’s Portrait of John Alfred Parsons Millet (1892). Join us for an illustrated virtual talk reviewing these and other significant acquisitions and her philosophy and plans for refining the collection as we move into the next decade. Following her remarks\, Ms. Velásquez will answer questions submitted by the audience. The program will conclude with a 30-minute virtual tour provided by one of the Museum’s talented and knowledgeable docents on the theme of “Building the Collection: The First Decade\, 1925-1935.” \n\nNOTE: This event has passed.
