DESCRIPTION:Monday\, October 4\n10:30 a.m. PT\nSpeaker: Ladan Akbarnia\, Ph.D.\, Curator of South Asian & Islamic Art at The San Diego Museum of Art \n  \nThe Edwin Binney 3rd Collection is comprised of about 1\,450 works created throughout India over 800 years\, from the 12th to the 20th centuries. An heir to the Crayola fortune\, the late Binney aimed to create an encyclopedic collection of Indian painting. The Museum acquired this collection in 1990. It is considered one of the finest and most comprehensive collections of South Asian paintings outside of India and attracts scholars and patrons from around the world. \nLadan Akbarnia\, Ph.D.\, Curator of South Asian & Islamic Art at The San Diego Museum of Art\, will present the newest rotation of the Binney Collection\, an exhibition titled Pearls from the Ocean of Contentment. Dr. Akbarnia’s experience is rich with a focus on the arts of the Islamic world\, in particular from Iran\, Central Asia\, and India. Prior to her tenure at the Museum\, she was most recently the Curator and Assistant Keeper for the Islamic Collections at The British Museum in London.
