SUMMARY:Members’ Preview: Chapel of the Rocks
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, October 29\n10:00 a.m.–noon \n  \nMembers get early access! Be among the first to see this powerful new installation by Justin Sterling. \nYou’re invited to the Members’ Preview for Chapel of the Rocks on October 29\, 2022. Constructed of unconventional materials\, Justin Sterling creates a space provoking contemplation of the role of bad faith in society. Constructed within the Museum gallery\, the approximately 1000-square-foot structure is suffused with light refracted through numerous stained-glass windows\, which the artist has shattered with rocks and then rebuilt in new ways. Nearby are works from different religious traditions from the Museum’s collection\, adding to the inclusive spiritual experience. \n  \nThis event is a member benefit. Justin Sterling: Chapel of the Rocks opens to the public at noon on October 29\, 2022. \n  \nFeatured: Justin Sterling\, Window for Chapel of the Rocks (detail)\, 2022. SUMMARY:Audiovisual Lecture and Book Signing: Reinventing the Power of Women through the Art of Alejandra Phelts
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, October 29\n10:30 a.m\nSpeaker: Alejandra Phelts\, Artist\nMuseum Boardroom \n  \nJoin the Latin American Arts Council (LAAC) in exploring the meaningful and innovative art of Alejandra Phelts\, a contemporary Mexican artist\, educator\, and lecturer. In 2006\, she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts from the Autonomous University of Baja California in Tijuana\, Mexico. She has won several awards including First Prize at the 2019 Latin American Art Fair organized by the Athenaeum Art Center. In 2017\, she had an exhibition Retratos Iluminados\, at the Centro Cultural Tijuana (CECUT). Recently\, Phelts published her retrospective work\, Alejandra Phelts\, La Rumorosa Arte y Patrimonio Colección Literaria\, 2021. She is founder and director of the non-profit association Art Nourishes\, in Tijuana\, Mexico. She has taught many art courses and workshops in Baja California and San Diego.
