SUMMARY:Virtual Tour: Agents of Power
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, June 9th \n1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. PT \n  \nThe rich and diverse body adornment traditions among peoples across the African continent are essential aspects of cultural expression\, creativity\, identity\, and heritage. Elements such as performance\, sculpture\, and beadwork collectively illustrate each group’s social status\, spiritual support\, military strength\, and individual cultural aesthetic. Through a selection of Maasai\, Chokwe\, Zulu\, and Xhosa works from the Mesa College World Art Collection and The San Diego Museum of Art\, this exhibition examines how art that represents the body or is meant to be worn on the body serves as an agent of power. \n  \nPlease reserve your spot by clicking on this link. All participants will be sent the Zoom link and instructions via email once you secure your place. Space is limited. \nReserve my spot! \n\nHosted by The San Diego Museum of Art Docent Council. \nFeatured: Barbara Tate\, Maasai Warrior\, 1983 (detail).
