SUMMARY:Art of Reading Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, November 12\, 2022\n10:00 a.m.–noon PT\nMuseum Boardroom or Virtual \n  \nJoin fellow book lovers and museum supporters in the Museum’s board room where we have a bite of bagels and a cup of coffee while discussing James Fox’s The World According to Color: A Cultural History. \nIn this book Fox takes seven elemental colors — black\, red\, yellow\, blue\, white\, purple\, and green — and behind each uncovers a root idea\, based on visual resemblances and common symbolism throughout history. Through a series of stories and vignettes\, the book reveals a great deal about the societies that produced them: reflecting and shaping their hopes\, fears\, prejudices\, and preoccupations. By creating a new history of color\, Fox reveals a new story about humans and our place in the universe. Second only to language\, color is the greatest carrier of cultural meaning in our world. \nPlease save your spot by Wednesday\, November 9\, by clicking on one of the below links. All in-person participants should check in at the Museum rotunda admissions desk then meet at the Museum boardroom. Both virtual and in-person participants will be sent the Zoom link and instructions via email once you secure your place.
