Built from around the 1950s to 1960s through gifts as well as Museum purchases with funding from individuals and The Asiatic Arts Committees of the Fine Arts Society—today’s Asian Arts Council and South Asian Arts Council—the collection is now on view in the dedicated gallery space established in 2017. \nShowcasing some of the best Persian art from the Museum’s permanent collection as well as 20 objects of the pre-Islamic time\, ranging from the Near Eastern (ca. 2500 BC) to the Sasanian era (224–651 AD) on loan from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art\, this gallery illustrates the profound development of Persian civilization and art within a global context. \nThis event is sponsored by the Persian Cultural Center. \n  \n\n\nFeatured: Mu’in Musavvir\, Bizhan (or Bijan) Slays Human\, ca. 1665. Performers will perform selections from Spanish-language and Spanish-set operas. \nThese 15 minute performances sets will begin:\n5:30 p.m.\n6:30 p.m.\n7:30 p.m. \nAdmission to the Museum during Art After Hours is only $5 after 5:00 p.m. on Fridays. Art After Hours is free for members\, Youth 17 & Under\, and free for College Students with ID. \n  \n  SDMA+ programs are offered by The San Diego Museum of Art in collaboration with other local arts institutions to create unique experiences and a deeper exploration of the art on view. \n
