Works by Debussy\, J. S. Bach\, and Jean Francaix round out the program. \nArt of Élan’s 13th season\, Hear & Now\, focuses on contemporary culture and the importance of cultural context in uniting an increasingly diverse\, complex\, and changing world. The timeless music of J. S. Bach weaves in and out of a season that highlights music from a wide variety of composers and time periods\, including several San Diego premieres. The Australian-born\, Paris-based jazz pianist and singer is poised to join the rarefied air occupied by superstars ‪Diana Krall and ‪Norah Jones. She’ll perform a rich collection of originals\, as well as jazz standards from the likes of George Gershwin\, Jerome Kern\, Johnny Mercer and Michel Legrand\, backed by a top shelf band including Castellanos himself. \nAt 7:30 p.m. a pre-concert talk about some of the most legendary pianists in jazz will be given by James Romeo*\, professor of music at San Diego Mesa College where he directs the award-winning Concert Jazz Band and the Kearny Mesa Concert Band.
