DESCRIPTION:Friday\, January 28\n1:00–3:00 p.m. PT\nSpeakers: Ling-en Lu\, Ph.D.\, Curator of East Asian Art\, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art\nKimberly Masteller\, Ph.D.\, Jeanne McCray Beals Curator of South and Southeast Asian Art\, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art\nYayoi Shinoda\, Assistant Curator of East Asian Art\, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art\nVirtual Event \n  \nFor the first time in decades\, rarely seen textile masterworks from China\, India\, Japan\, Iran\, and Turkey in the collection of The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art are now on view in an extraordinary exhibition. Made with fine materials\, exemplary techniques\, and superb artistry\, these Asian luxury textiles and costumes were prized objects\, both domestically and through global trade. Three distinguished presenters from The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art will share highlights from this exhibition\, including classical Persian carpets and velvets\, exquisite Kashmir shawls\, important Chinese court robes\, sumptuous furnishings\, Japanese theatre costumes\, and Meiji-era tapestries. \n  \nPresenter Bios: \nLing-en Lu\, Ph.D. is the Curator of East Asian Art at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Lu is an expert in Chinese art and earned her doctorate in Art History at the University of Kansas. \nKimberly Masteller\, Ph.D. is the Jeanne McCray Beals Curator of South and Southeast Asian Art at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Masteller is a specialist in the arts of South Asia and curates the Nelson-Atkins Islamic art collections. She earned her doctorate in the History of Art at The Ohio State University. \nYayoi Shinoda is the Assistant Curator of East Asian Art at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Shinoda is a specialist in Japanese Art. Shinoda has earned an M.A. and is pursuing her doctorate in Art History at the University of Kansas. \n  \nPlease note\, this session will be conducted virtually via Zoom. \nPlease register by clicking on this link.
