DESCRIPTION:Saturdays\, June 21\, July 19\, August 16\n10:30–11:45 a.m.\nThe San Diego Museum of Art Library \n  \nJoin us for a morning of artful reflection and handwritten connection.\nIn a fast-moving world of digital messages\, take a thoughtful pause to reconnect with the timeless art of letter-writing\, guided by creativity and meaningful conversation. \nWe will begin with a stroll through the sculpture garden\, taking time to observe\, discuss\, and respond to selected works and their creators. Together\, we will explore questions of artistic intention\, personal interpretation\, and emotional response while practicing the essential creative act of thinking deeply and expressing ourselves with care. \nYou will then be invited to write a letter to an artist\, whether living or past\, or to someone with whom you wish to share your reflections. This is a chance to slow down\, be present\, and engage meaningfully with art through writing. \nAll materials will be provided\, including guidance on how to compose\, personalize\, address\, and send your handwritten letter. \n  \nPlease RSVP here to save your spot. Registration is limited to 15 participants. Museum admission not included.

DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, August 16\n11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.\nMOPA@SDMA Atrium \n  \nJoin Museum educators in creatively reusing book jackets to make fanciful lanterns.\nUsing scissors and glue\, create a beautiful paper lantern using book jackets. This workshop is inspired and led by artist Cat Chiu whose artwork Booked is featured in the Conversations in Art: Dignity exhibition on view in the Dammeyer Gallery at MOPA@SDMA now through January 4\, 2026. \nPlease join us! No reservations required. All materials are provided. Free with Museum admission.  \n  \nGreat for artists of all ages\, Community Art Workshops invite artists to enjoy hands-on art making experiences inspired by the thinking and creating processes of artists on view at the Museum. Artists under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the workshop.
