Click here to see what each package offers. \n\nBLOOM BASH Featured Artists\nRachel Hayes\n\n \nRachel Hayes\, an artist inspired by traditions of quilt making\, sculpture\, painting\, Minimalism and Land Art\, creates installations that embrace light to transform space. In this version of Not Fade Away\, a project she designed for the San Diego Museum of Art\, Hayes stitches together several types of pliant materials — colored plastic theatrical gels\, translucent organza\, and opaque reflective gold lamé — to create dynamic constructions that swoop through the Sculpture Court\, activating their surroundings. Colorful dapples of light play across the ground\, giving the viewer a new awareness of place\, time\, and space. The warm color palette of this work evokes the opulence of the Museum\, the epic sunsets off the coast\, and the golden Oklahoma sunshine\, where the artist resides. \nRachel Hayes received her BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in Fiber\, and her MFA in Painting from Virginia Commonwealth University. Thornton Rotunda into a large\, all-encompassing floral installation. In addition\, hands-on art-making and interactive activities designed for children and families to do together are offered April 25–26 in the Garden of Activities. \nAdmission to the Art Alive Floral Exhibition is free for members. There will be a 60–90 minute private tour in the morning led by their educators followed by a break for lunch. What were the tricks of the trade used by these artists and how was illusionistic art valued by its audiences? In the early 18th century\, a collision of these two traditions occurred\, primarily between a supreme connoisseur\, the Qianlong Emperor\, and an extraordinarily versatile artist\, Giuseppe Castiglione\, also known as Lang Shining. SUMMARY:Virtual Realities: Extreme Illusionism in Qing Court Painting
DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Dr. Elaine Pierce \nCreating the illusion of three dimensions on a two-dimensional surface has historically been a goal of some artists both in Europe and China\, but utilizing very different approaches. What were the tricks of the trade used by these artists and how was illusionistic art valued by its audiences? In the early 18th century\, a collision of these two traditions occurred\, primarily between a supreme connoisseur\, the Qianlong Emperor\, and an extraordinarily versatile artist\, Giuseppe Castiglione\, also known as Lang Shining. The marvels in art and architecture that they co-created will be the subject of this lecture. \n\n\nDr. Elaine Pierce’s childhood was influenced by her Chinese mother\, who was fiercely proud of her heritage and always a little wistful about leaving her native Malaysia after World War 2. At the age of 16\, Dr. Pierce was sent to spend the summer studying Chinese in Taiwan\, but she proceeded to goof off with the other American teenagers unleashed from parental scrutiny and managed to learn no useful language skills. A key experience during the trip was a visit to the spectacular National Palace Museum\, which sparked a lifelong love of Chinese art and culture. After practicing emergency medicine and then primary care medicine for many years\, followed by a second career in public health\, she had the opportunity to return to her first love through the San Diego Museum of Art’s docent training program\, which she completed in 2017.
