In conversation with SDMA’s curator of South Asian and Islamic art\, Ebtekar will discuss his artistic practice through a selection of work from the past fifteen years\, including three important pieces currently on display in the Museum’s galleries of the Arts of Iran and the Americas\, and a major commission for the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco. Made with fine materials\, exemplary techniques\, and superb artistry\, these Asian luxury textiles and costumes were prized objects\, both domestically and through global trade. Three distinguished presenters from The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art will share highlights from this exhibition\, including classical Persian carpets and velvets\, exquisite Kashmir shawls\, important Chinese court robes\, sumptuous furnishings\, Japanese theatre costumes\, and Meiji-era tapestries. \n  \nPresenter Bios: \nLing-en Lu\, Ph.D. is the Curator of East Asian Art at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Lu is an expert in Chinese art and earned her doctorate in Art History at the University of Kansas. \nKimberly Masteller\, Ph.D. is the Jeanne McCray Beals Curator of South and Southeast Asian Art at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Masteller is a specialist in the arts of South Asia and curates the Nelson-Atkins Islamic art collections. She earned her doctorate in the History of Art at The Ohio State University. \nYayoi Shinoda is the Assistant Curator of East Asian Art at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Shinoda is a specialist in Japanese Art.
