DESCRIPTION:Tuesdays\, March 17 and May 19\n10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.\nMOPA@SDMA Atrium \n  \nJoin us for a hands-on morning of reflection\, storytelling\, and creative making inspired by the photography of Graciela Iturbide. Drawing from her poetic images of landscapes\, objects\, and communities\, this workshop invites participants to explore the relationship between people and the natural world through the creation of organic\, nature-inspired books. The program will begin with an educator-led tour of the exhibition\, offering close-looking opportunities and conversation to deepen engagement with Iturbide’s work.  \nDuring this workshop\, participants will create one-of-a-kind handmade books using natural materials such as dried leaves\, shells\, and wood. Guided by museum educators\, you will explore simple bookmaking techniques while considering how organic forms\, textures\, and found elements can hold memory and meaning. Each book will become a tactile archive\, an intimate meditation on place\, environment\, and personal connection.  \nAll materials will be provided.  \nPlease RSVP here to reserve your spot. Registration is limited to 15 participants.  \nRegistration is limited to 15 people. Workshop held during Resident Free Tuesday\, which grants free admission to San Diego County residents (with ID) on the third Tuesday of every month. DESCRIPTION:Friday\, March 20\n10:00 a.m.\nSpeaker: Dr. William Nericcio\, Professor of English & Comparative Literature and Director of Master of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences at San Diego State University\nMOPA@SDMA Joan and Irwin Jacobs Theater \n  \nDirector of San Diego State University’s longest-running Interdisciplinary and Cultural Studies graduate program\, MALAS (the Master of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences program)\, Dr. William Nericcio is Professor of English and Comparative Literature at SDSU. The exhibition reflects on the histories and legacies of post-Civil War America as they continue to resonate today\, bringing together a selection of decommissioned monuments\, many of which are Confederate\, with contemporary artworks borrowed and newly created for the occasion. \nLA Arts District \nExplore the Los Angeles Arts District\, including a guided tour of the Hauser & Wirth gallery\, currently featuring the following two exhibitions: \n\nWorks of art by Los Angeles-based artist Christina Quarles created in the wake of the wildfires in Altadena and reflecting an acute sense of displacement.\nDestiny is a Rose\, the Eileen Harris Norton collection\, with more than 80 works that together reflect Harris Norton’s prescient vision and commitment to social justice and learning\, including such artists as Mark Bradford\, \, Glenn Ligon\, Betye Saar\, Lorna Simpson\, and Jack Whitten\, among others.\n\nEnjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant of your choice and discover smaller galleries in the area.
