San Diegan and Master Glass Blower Kathleen Mitchell savors the physical aspect of working and communing with molten glass, which she describes as challenging but earthy.
Kathleen Mitchell was born in Jacksonville, North Carolina in 1958. In 1967 her family settled in the multi-cultural city of San Diego, CA. A love of Mexican folk art complements her proud Celtic heritage in both theme and image throughout her work. In 1984 she learned to blow glass at Kent State. The frozen water pipes of a single winter in Ohio drove her back to Southern California. She currently produces her furnace work at her private studio at the Bread & Salt Center for the Arts in the Barrio Logan neighborhood of San Diego. Kathleen is an instructor of both glassblowing and lamp working at her private studio.
