Title: Summer Youth Art Programs Counselor

Position: Education Department

Classification: Part- Time, Temporary Non-Exempt (Seasonal)

Summer Camp July 16th– August 17th 2018 (5 weeks)

(2 AM)  Positions (Work Hours: 8:00 a.m. –; M – F)

(2 PM)  Positions (Work Hours: 11:45 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; M – F)

Reports To: Coordinator, Educator and Student Programs    

Job Summary: This is a position within the Education Department responsible for assisting summer youth art program Instructors and staff in the supervision of students grades Kindergarten through twelve. The Summer Youth Art Programs Counselor will also assist in the implementation of visual art activities in the classroom, in visits to the Museum, and in leading camp games and activities that encourage children to learn in a fun environment.

All counselors are responsible for participating in a pre-program training day in early July 2018.

Qualifications: B.A. or equivalent in art or education or visual art background with prior experience working with children preferred.

Knowledge:  Understanding of how art classes enhance the museum experience.

Abilities:  Ability to learn and contribute creative ideas about activities
for students; Work well in a fast paced, dynamic environment; Be able to stand for long periods and work outdoors in summer heat; Ability to work effectively in a team; Ability to be culturally sensitive and respect diversity.

Skills:  Effective communication skills. Patient and flexible. Computer literate. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
