Teen Summer Studios 2018

Designed for teens grades 6–12, Teen Summer Studios are led by artists and expert art educators and include multiple projects and visits to the Museum to view summer exhibitions. View the schedule, program packet, and registration information below, and complete the registration form.

July 16 – 20

Passport to India: Epic Tales (Grades 9–12)

Journey to India by exploring the galleries and try your hand at art forms that have been around for hundreds of years! Enjoy a variety of projects, from miniature painting to storytelling with textiles—all inspired by the artistic traditions of India.

Passport to Europe: Secrets of the Old Masters (Grades 6–8)

Discover paintings made with eggs and decorated with gold. Visit the European Art galleries and learn about innovative techniques used by the old masters while creating your own masterpieces.


July 23 – July 27

Expanding Your Portfolio I (Grades 9–12)

Take your artwork in new directions, meet other teen artists, and create a portfolio for submission to fine arts colleges. Visit the galleries to see master works and discover new art forms. Receive expert guidance to develop your portfolio.

Portraits, Selfies, and More (Grades 6–8)

Explore traditional and contemporary portrait techniques through a variety of art forms and processes. Discover portraits from past eras in the galleries, and consider what forms portraiture takes today.


July 30 – August 3

Expanding Your Portfolio II (Grades 9–12)

Take your artwork to the next level! Meet other teen artists and expand your portfolio for submission to fine arts colleges. Explore new art forms, visit the galleries to see master works, and receive expert guidance in the development of your portfolio.

Who’s Who?: Discover an Artist a Day (Grades 6–8)

Discover a new artist each day through explorations in the galleries and with projects connected to that artist’s process. Create art inspired by masterpieces and work on a collaborative mural.

To receive all discounts, registration must be processed through the mail or over the phone. Please print and mail in the registration form or call 619.696.1935 to confirm registration.

Summer Youth Programs 2018 Scholarships

Complete and mail in the 2018 Summer Youth Art Programs Scholarship Application (available in Spanish) along with a completed registration form to apply for a full or partial scholarship.


After Registration:

Please read the following documents regarding Teen Summer Studio and Summer Camp policies and procedures, and return all forms completed to the Museum prior to the first day of the program.


Cancellation Policy

You must cancel at least two weeks prior to the first day of your child’s camp/studio to receive a 100% refund. Cancellations less than two weeks prior to the first day of your child’s camp/studio will be refunded at 50% of the fee paid. After the first day of your child’s camp/studio, no refunds will be issued for any reason.
