Lily Birmingham, a Museum docent and member of the Asian Arts Council study group that explored Persian art history, discusses works from the Sasanian dynasty, including decorative goods, utilitarian items, and architecture. Sasanian art combines Near Eastern and Greco-Roman traditions, and due to trade along the Silk Road, the influence of Sasanian art was felt as far as China and Byzantium. Influence can be seen also in features of Islamic art, such as arabesque patterns and the niches and domes of mosque designs.
