One Night, Two Exhibitions
Forging a Legacy: 15 Years of Landmark Acquisitions, our newest centennial exhibition, includes more than 150 standout works from the many thousands of important works of art added to our collection in recent history. The astounding quality of the additions to the collection are testament not only to the Museum’s directorial and curatorial vision, but also to the many generous individuals who have gifted art to share with this city and its diverse communities. It is a collection created by and for the people of San Diego and is shared internationally through publications, loans to other museums, and with touring exhibitions worldwide. Enjoy after-hours access and a guided docent tour of the exhibition.
Cafés and Cabarets: the Spectacular Art of Toulouse-Lautrec showcases the revolutionary work of French artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. Working in the popular and modern art form of the color lithograph, Toulouse-Lautrec reached unprecedented audiences with spellbinding visuals and eye-catching colors. His short but celebrated career immortalized the cabaret culture of Belle Époque Paris and revolutionized the art of the poster. In 1987, The San Diego Museum of Art received the spectacular gift of over one hundred paintings, drawings, and prints by Toulouse-Lautrec from the Baldwin Foundation. In celebration of this gift and the Museum’s centennial, this exhibition shares approximately fifty works from the permanent collection. Enjoy after-hours access and a guided docent tour of the exhibition.
